About AquaCore

AquaCore™ is AquaIDEA’s proprietary composite material technology, developed in Japan specifically for high-performance yacht and marine underwater lighting. Built upon more than 25 years of experience in underwater illumination, AquaCore™ represents our commitment to Japanese craftsmanship: continuously refining every material, structure, and manufacturing detail until it can provide dependable performance in demanding marine environments.

Traditional underwater light housings are generally manufactured from metal or plastic. Metal housings can provide effective heat dissipation and structural strength, but long-term exposure to seawater may lead to corrosion, surface deterioration, or galvanic reactions between dissimilar metals. Plastic housings offer good corrosion resistance and electrical insulation, but their thermal performance and mechanical strength may limit their suitability for higher-output underwater lighting.

AquaCore™ was developed to create a new balance between these two conventional material choices.

Using a specially engineered resin system reinforced with thermally conductive ceramic materials, AquaCore™ combines thermal management, mechanical strength, electrical insulation, and corrosion resistance within a lightweight, non-metallic composite structure. It is neither a conventional plastic housing nor a traditional metal body. It is a purpose-developed material platform created for the next generation of yacht underwater lighting.

Rather than simply adapting an existing industrial material, AquaCore™ has been developed specifically around the operational requirements of underwater LED lighting.

One-Piece Composite Construction

AquaCore™ allows the main light housing to be manufactured as a solid, one-piece composite structure. This reduces unnecessary joints, connections, and separate housing components that may become potential weak points during long-term underwater operation.

The result is a stronger and more integrated structure designed to improve sealing reliability and product durability.

 

Corrosion-Free Material

As a non-metallic composite material, AquaCore™ does not rust and is highly resistant to deterioration caused by seawater exposure. Unlike conventional aluminum, bronze, or stainless-steel housings, the AquaCore™ body does not depend on a surface coating or plating layer as its primary protection against corrosion.

Its corrosion resistance comes from the material itself.

Reduced Risk of Galvanic Corrosion

When different metals are installed together in seawater, electrical interaction between the materials may create galvanic corrosion. This is an important consideration for modern aluminium boats and other marine installations involving multiple metal components.

Because AquaCore™ is electrically insulating and non-metallic, it helps reduce the risk of galvanic interaction between the underwater light housing and the vessel structure. This makes it particularly suitable for installation on aluminum boats.

 

Effective Thermal Management

High-output LEDs generate heat, and controlling this heat is essential for maintaining brightness, colour stability, electronic reliability, and service life.

AquaCore™ incorporates thermally conductive ceramic fillers that help transfer heat away from the LED and internal electronic components. It is designed to provide considerably better thermal performance than conventional general-purpose plastic housings while retaining the corrosion resistance and electrical insulation advantages of a non-metallic material.

 

Electrical Insulation

AquaCore™ is naturally electrically insulating. This provides an additional level of separation between the internal electrical system, the seawater environment, and the vessel structure.

This characteristic is especially valuable in marine applications where moisture, saltwater, and multiple metal components may exist within the same installation.

Lightweight but Durable

Compared with many traditional metal housings, AquaCore™ provides a lighter structure without relying on thin or fragile plastic construction. Its composite formulation is engineered to provide mechanical strength, resistance to vibration, and durability under normal marine operating conditions.

The reduced weight can also simplify product handling and installation.

Designed for High-Performance Yacht Lighting

AquaCore™ has been developed primarily for AquaIDEA’s new generation of yacht underwater lights, particularly products requiring a balance of:

  • High LED output

  • Effective heat dissipation

  • Long-term seawater resistance

  • Electrical insulation

  • Structural strength

  • Reduced housing weight

  • Compatibility with aluminium vessels

  • Reliable continuous underwater operation

This makes AquaCore™ especially suitable for medium- to high-output underwater lighting systems where conventional plastic housings may not provide sufficient thermal performance and traditional metal housings may face corrosion-related limitations.

 

Carefully Controlled Manufacturing

Every AquaCore™ housing is produced through a controlled manufacturing process that may include:

  • Precise measurement of the resin and ceramic components

  • Thorough mixing to achieve a consistent material structure

  • Vacuum degassing to reduce trapped air and internal voids

  • One-piece molding of the main housing

  • Controlled curing to ensure stable material performance

  • Precision machining of sealing and installation surfaces

  • Inspection of dimensions, surface quality, and structural condition

  • Final assembly and underwater performance testing

This careful process reflects AquaIDEA’s Japanese manufacturing philosophy: quality is not created by one final inspection, but by controlling every production stage from the selection of raw materials to the completion of the finished light.

A New Direction for Marine Underwater Lighting

AquaCore™ is more than a replacement for metal or plastic. It represents a new material direction developed specifically for the challenges faced by modern marine underwater lighting.

By combining corrosion resistance, thermal performance, electrical insulation, structural durability, and one-piece construction, AquaCore™ allows AquaIDEA to develop underwater lights that are better suited to the evolving requirements of yacht builders, marine distributors, installers, and aluminium boat owners.

Following the completion of product validation, manufacturing preparation, and final performance testing, AquaCore™ technology is planned to become available for commercial marketing and selected AquaIDEA yacht underwater lighting products from mid-2027.
